Setting up before flight
By Marc Simard
Emily and Elena divide up dead and live plant material
We had our first Go-No-Go evening briefing with the airborne and field teams. Paul W. Miller, our Delta-X meteorologist from LSU, made specialized weather forecasts that will help us plan the next few days.
Also:
- The Vegetation Team parsed plant material. The proportions of dead and live plants tell the amount of biomass still standing from last growth season versus that which will grow this season.
-
The Channel Team finished setup of their water filtering lab. One has to realize, they will process about 800 liters of water to extract the little ~100mg of material found in a liter of Mississippi water.
The water filtering lab setup inside the cabinInstalling tripods on Mike Island - The Island Team were able to install tripods for continuous measurement of turbidity on Mike island. Water turbidity is a proxy for the amount of sediment transported and deposited across the wetlands occupying the islands.
