The triplet flight
By Marc SimardAll Delta-X airborne instruments flew today—AirSWOT, UAVSAR and AVIRIS-NG!
- Including yesterday’s and today’s flights in the Atchafalaya basins, AirSWOT collected a total of 42 lines.
- Including the Delta-X test flights in Chesapeake bay before coming to Lousiana, AirSWOT has flown 17.95 hours, and collected 52 data lines and ~8.18 TB of raw data.
-
AVIRIS-NG’s John Chapman and Luis Rios successfully acquired data along the priority water quality lines over the Atchafalaya and Wax Lake Outlet. These data were coincident in situ measurements of water quality by Delta-X Water Quality and Island Teams.
- UAVSAR’s Tim Miller successfully captured data to monitor the tidal propagation from low to rising tides across Atchafalaya Basin’s wetlands. UAVSAR flew 5 hours and 35 minutes to repeatedly image 2 regions of interest and capture 17 instances of the tide propagating into the wetlands.
Today, we had 5 boats on the water:
The Vegetation Team in the field
- The Vegetation Team with their outboard and airboat finished sampling Delta-X Intensive Site #421.
- The Island Team collected several datasets around Mike Island including ADCP transects during AirSWOT. These transects will complement the set of 18 ADCP transects collected today by Bill Gibson along the entire Wax Lake Outlet spanning the entire day.
- The Water Quality Team collected water samples and vertical turbidity profiles within the water column of the Wax lake Outlet coincident with: part of the 18 WLO ADCP transects, and the ADCP transects and water sampling profiles collected by the Island Team.
- During the AVIRIS-NG flight, both the Water Quality and Island Teams were alerted of AVIRIS-NG overpass and timed collection of water quality measurements and samples. These will be used for calibration of AVIRIS-NG inversion model to characterize river sediment.
Tomorrow is a Down Day for all field and airborne teams. The Delta-X field teams will spend the day processing the data collected.
