Lucky day

By Marc Simard

Today, AVIRIS-NG had a lucky day with 2 Delta-X teams in the field. Indeed, AVIRIS-NG had an unexpectedly productive day with a sudden clear sky window that allowed for collection of several high priority ‘water quality’ and vegetation flight lines over the Terrebonne basin. The priority lines imaged Delta-X Intensive Sites 399 and 322 several times near Four Leagues Bay.

All that while the Water Quality Team conducted coincident in situ field measurements. Meanwhile, the Vegetation Team collected aboveground and belowground biomass data at Delta-X Intensive site 399. The Island Team processed data in the lab while the ADCP teams (JPL/UNC) took a break.

Tomorrow there are no planned flights. It is also a well-deserved down-day for AVIRIS-NG as they successfully collected all Delta-X priority imagery.

This preliminary mosaic of quick-look images has not been calibrated, nor has it been radiometrically stretched correctly. Nonetheless, the mosaic demonstrates the clouds do not cover the Delta-X intensive sites and their extent will not affect Delta-X science. All Delta-X Intensive sites have been have been imaged a few times. Bravo AVIRIS-NG Team! And as our Delta-X Manager (Yang) said: "Laissez le bon temps rouler" (let the good times roll).

Other good news, the testing of the UAVSAR radar on NASA’s AFRC plane was successful and the G-III aircraft will transit tomorrow to New Orleans. UAVSAR will be available for planned flights in tandem with AirSWOT this Saturday and Sunday, as long as the forming tropical storm does not interfere on Sunday… to be continued.
