Media in the field

Today there were no flights.

JPL’s ADCP team collected ADCP transects near the Wax Lake delta apex and Mike island. They showed the JPL media crew various aspects of Delta-X field measurements. The Vegetation and ADCP (JPL) teams were in the Wax Lake Outlet around Mike Island. The Vegetation Team sampled several vegetation plots (50 x 50cm) across the Island hydrogeomorphic zones, and collected root cores and soil cores. The team also collected felspar cores to measure recent soil accretion.

The Island Team finalized the installation of its in situ stations at the Delta-X intensive site 421, located in the Terrebonne basin. These stations, like the ones on Mike Island, will make nearly continuous measurements of water turbidity during the campaign. The Water Quality (Boston U.) team was not in the field.

AVIRIS-NG may fly tomorrow morning given clear skies. The Water Quality and Island teams will be on site around Mike Island to make in situ field measurements needed to develop remote sensing models. Tomorrow, U. North Carolina’s ADCP team (John and Julianne) will collect ADCP transects and bathymetric profiles along the Atchafalaya River. The Vegetation Team (FIU+LSU) and JPL will not be in the field. The Vegetation Team will be processing field samples in the lab, and the JPL team will try to resolve issues with boat hydraulics (engine lift).
